I've Got A Feeling...

this year's for me and you...

Unless you move to Boston and bail on me :-) Even so, Kayleigh, we'll find a way to make this year our best yet.

So, 2008: A Review

January:
things I did:
-lots of guitar hero
-Relay, and the inspiration to speak next time
-kick ass Manhattan in a day NYC trip
-Induction into my first honor society.
things I fell in love with:
-the East Village
things I learned:
-this was my first experience with the NYC subway system...we did okay.

February:
things I did:
-FLORIDA!
things I fell in love with:
-Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist
-Juno
-Punk music
-Indie music
things I learned:
-Despite the fact that kids are cute, putting a ton of them in one place (aka Disney World) is too much for me :-)
-I need to wear Chuck Taylor's every day. For realsies.
-Mitt Romney, despite his concession, should be president.
-Phoebe Strole used to believe in the Valentine's Day fairy, despite the fact that "there is no such thing in any mythology or folklore"
-No one in the Spring Awakening cast is like "Valentine's DAY! RED AND WHITE LIGHTS! Let's go do the Valentine's Day...event...thing."
-Blake Daniel isn't lonely, he's just...alone. Good news for me, even though at the time I didn't love him.

March:
things I did:
-BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN CONCERT: the first one
-NYC: Spring Awakening and RENT in one day
things I fell in love with:
-Bruce Springsteen, all over again
-BLAKE DANIEL
-Adam Kantor (Mark in RENT)
things I learned:
-Driving in a massive blizzard despite protests from my family for a Springsteen concert is in fact worth it.
-Blake Daniel is the epitome of the perfect man, looks, voice, and style-wise (hey, those Chucks, skinny jeans, scarves, and messenger bags are a good look for him), and one of these days, we will get married.
-Despite popular opinion, Lea Michele is a real sweetheart at the stagedoor. Not contrary to popular opinion, Jonathan B. Wright is creepy.
-The end of March does not mean the end of cold weather, so bundle up when you're spending three hours sitting on the sidewalk in NYC.

April
things I did:
-Matty turned three. That made me feel old.
-NYC again...SA matinee and Jesse Malin concert
things I fell in love with:
-Matt Doyle, who was just as awesome as everyone said.
-The Orion Experience
-Holly Brook
-The Bowery Ballroom and the lower Manhattan music scene
things I learned:
-The play group is every bit as crazy as I had heard
-Jesse Malin puts on a really kick ass show, but next time, a 24 hour parking garage would be better.
-The lead singer of the Orion Experience is actually named Orion. Weird.
-Jamie is prettier than me.
-"Oh, Heather, you're a wit."
-Blake Daniel is cuddly in pictures. I like that.
-All the good guys are either gay (or not) or crazy, which I learned from a crying, drunken conversation with Kayleigh.
-Post-concert withdrawal is deadly.

May:
things I did:
-Ryan's graduation
-The end of school
things I fell in love with:
-Um, not much, actually...I don't even remember May
-The "your mom" sign!
-Oh, and sexy man from my class...lolz at that.
things I learned:
-I really do hate science classes.
-I am able to navigate airports completely by myself.
-I'm very proud of my brother.
-I want my Ph.D, and I want to teach...that was important.

June:
things I did:
-got teeth pulled
-played with Matthew
-Last summer registration.
things I fell in love with:
-Our skit from the OL cabaret!
-TGO
things I learned:
-The extraction of wisdom teeth sucks balls.
-Oxycotin makes me puke.
-I will miss doing orientation.

July:
things I did:
-Luke was born. Nothing else is worth mentioning in comparison to that.
things I fell in love with:
-Luke Couser Corriveau
things I learned
-I have not one, but two kick ass nephews, and both of them are the cutest boys in the world.
-Matthew is a fantastic big brother
-If my food gets thrown in the woods, it will be eaten by bears...just like Captain.

August:
things I did:
-BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN!
-turned 21, which led to...
-drank a lot
-NYC: SA onstage, Hair...first overnight trip
-back to school
things I fell in love with:
-The Niagra Bar
-Rum and coke
-Luke, even more.
-NYC, even more
-SA onstage seats.
-Hunter Parrish, Alexandra Socha
things I learned:
-sitting next to Blake is absolutely amazing, but almost a bit uncomfortable (do i smell? am i chewing my gum too loudly? oh my god, we just bumped elbows!)
-the replacement cast of SA is just as good as the OBC
-Blake Daniel truly is the love of my life, though he probably things I stalk him
-NYC in the rain: problem!
-It kind of sucks to sit in line for something all day, only to have it get rained out, but Jonathan Groff loves me, and I love him too.
-The amount of tears I expected to cry during our senior song? Multiply that by fifty million (however, led to my first ever hug from someone)
-I can plan a weekend in NYC completely alone.
-Being on the floor at a Springsteen concert is a completely different experience from being in the back.
-I will choose Bruce Springsteen over celebrating my birthday with my family. It doesn't mean I don't love them.
-Yeah, post-concert withdrawal is a terrible, terrible thing.

September:
things I did:
-started senior year off with a bang
-Mountain Day singing
things I fell in love with:
-Hamlet 2
things I learned:
-Maybe I can get over my gay crush! (we all see how that turned out)
-People avoid Myra Glenn classes for a reason
-I really love Ithaca
-I also really love the Branch
-I will miss Mountain Day singing...however, the '11s cannot handle losing.
-sometimes I sell myself short

October:
things I did:
-Parent's Weekend: senior reception, ODK induction
-Campaigning
-Winner/Tonello debate
-HOME!
things I fell in love with:
-my nephews all over again, as I do every time I see them when it's been awhile
things I learned:
-Driving with Dr. Powers is not fun at all
-John Tonello is a bag of douche.
-So is Sam Katz.
-I'm head over hells and can't do anything to fix it.
-I could run a better campaign than everyone in the Chemung County Republican Committee, the Steuben County Republican Committee, and John McCain
-Republicans are racist and KKK members.

November:
things I did:
-NYC with Jamie: SA onstage
-Thanksgiving at Shaz's.
-Thanksgiving at Dad's.
-Thanksgiving at Ryan's.
-Laying in the snow with Jeremy for hours.
-A lot of bitching and whining.
things I fell in love with:
-laying in the snow
-Turkey
things I learned:
-I hate November.
-I love turkey, and it never gets old.
-I have another person that will listen to me and support me when I need it, and I'm thankful for that.
-I can't afford NYU, but CUNY Brooklyn excites me.
-Dear God, Americans are idiots.
-Starbucks, despite my contempt for them, is the perfect place to get out of the rain, especially on free sample day.

December
things I did:
-I had my first damage-causing car accident.
-Christmas
-Hanging with the nephews.
-Holiday weekend amazingness.
-Christmas present exchange at 1 am.
things I fell in love with:
-The most perfect dress and shoes in the world.
-My christmas presents, especially my mug.
-The combination of Lauren and Shazib.
-Ferrario Ford
-TWILIGHT! But that's a secret.
-The new computer and ipod, even though I haven't gotten them yet
-An animal big rig
-New York and Co.
things I learned:
-maybe someone isn't as gay as we all thought?
-just because a book is terribly written does not mean it is all bad.
-having kids around makes the holidays better

Things to look forward to in 2009:
The release of Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist to DVD, Bruce Springsteen's new album and subsequent tour, the closing performance of Spring Awakening (I don't want it to come, but it is going to be so amazing), the revivals of Hair and Guys and Dolls, the release of RENT: Filmed Live on Broadway, New Moon (even though it's my least favorite of the books), getting into grad school, moving to NYC, having my own apartment, the NYC music and theater scene, dating Blake Daniel, making new friends (and hopefully keeping the ones I have), getting even closer with my nephews, going to Spain...

In all honesty, New Year's usually makes me happy because usually my years are shitty and I look forward to the promise of a new year being better, but this year was actually really good. I accomplished a lot, I did a lot of fun things, I've achieved all of my life goals (sans the presidency/supreme court thing), and sometimes I worry if this is it-as good as it's going to get. But then I remember that I'm 21 and I have the whole world at my feet right now, and I'm approaching an exciting (albeit terrifying) time in my life, and I have a lot to learn, and a lot to look forward too.

Resolutions (maybe I'm not so perfect)

  • Do not ruin my GPA during my last 2 terms.
  • I really need to lose weight.
  • I really need to stop procrastinating.
  • Get out of bed with enough time to shower and do my hair each day.
  • Do all of my reading for class.
  • After graduation, work on staying in contact with my friends.
  • Continue to be awesome

All I Want For Christmas...

I'll settle for Spring Awakening closing tickets. Haha. Probably the best Christmas present I've ever gotten (although I didn't get the YELLOW animal big rig Matthew thought I should have this year...damn shame).

The other thing I really want for Christmas...

Oh, wait...I GOT THAT.

...

God knows how I miss you
All the hell that I've been through
Just knowing no one can take your place

Here's to...

Four years of freedom from you know who! And, I haven't heard from him in 2 years, so that's a good thing too. Granted, it's been kind of a dry spell since then, but I would much rather be single than deal with that again, and I think it's been a good thing anyway.

I'll get over you, you won't know who I am
And there's this burning
Just like there's always been
I've never been so alone
And I've never been so alive
\go home to the coast
It starts to rain I paddle out on the water alone
Taste the salt and taste the pain
I'm not thinking of you again

I've got a hand for you...

Thank you for that conversation, bitch. I feel exponentially better than I did 2 hours ago :)

Sooo this one time I got in a car accident and got stranded in Elmira for wayyyy longer than necessary. But it's okay now.

Off to have a sleepover with one of my two favorite (little) boys.

EDIT: Bitch=term of endearment.

Through the years...

I think I aged the most between sophomore and junior year.
Home today (hopefully :/ ) I'm finishing up my last paper right now, and then I'm done. I'm really, really going to miss certain people here. 3 weeks is a long time. I'm excited for New Year's with my wife though.
In the interim, I'm just sitting here, writing a paper and listening to lovesick songs.

Thursday, December 11, 2008

Hell. Freaking. Yes.

I got an A on my term paper for the Enlightenment class. From DR. "I barely give A's on papers" GLENN. I'm so freaking stoked.

Monday, December 8, 2008

Fuck Finals.

The good news is, the two hardest ones are over. The bad news is, in the next 24 hours I need to edit an eight page paper, and take 2 exams. Hopefully, it will be okay. I just need to get through tomorrow.

The other good news is we made our Team Sweatervest shirts and went to the bar after our Myra finals. Here's to the end of four years of historical (figurative and literal) torture. Pictures are coming, once we have time to upload them.

I also need to do some shopping. I finished Ryan+Jenn, Keena + Jeff, Dad, and Grandpa, as well as my secret santa, but I have to do the boys, the dogs (bookstore!), Kayleigh (just a tacky stocking stuffer...aka best friend keychains, lol), and Jeremy (that one is a little harder). I have some ideas in mind though. I think we're going Wednesday night, and then we're going to wrap presents and watch Love Actually like we do every year.

Twilight was freaking amazing, by the way. So the dialogue is tacky and contrived, the angst is amusing, but the plot and the characters are fantastic. So glad we went. I'm working my way through the book, but since I don't have time to read right now, it will take awhile.

And by the way, I woke up with a TERRIBLE cold this morning. Just what I needed.

...wish me luck on not riding the failroad (or the failboat...whichever you prefer).

Holiday Weekend...

...kicked ass.

Banquet was a lot of fun...

...mainly because Dr. Charlie Mitchell completes my life (especially when he offers to give me extensions)

The dance was fun as well.

We started off with some drinking at the bar they set up for seniors on campus.

And we soon felt the effects.

And then I found that kid I kind of adore, who taught me my new favorite dance move, ever. And we did some cha-cha sliding, which is always a blast.

And then it was time to go to the bar with this kid, who's not actually 21, nor is she from Kansas.
And then it was time for Denny's, because we were hungry, and these two, who had never met, hit it off and made quite the pair.

And we were tired, but it was worth it.

Yeah, it was a good weekend. And I got a wonderful present of play-doh, coloring books, M+M's, and "Let's Go To Prison" (don't ask). So tomorrow I will die, and then I will die some more on Tuesday, but then life will be easier.

I want a new hair straightener and the Hamlet 2 DVD, and tickets to CPAC (although I'll get reimbursed for that, I just need the money in my account to buy the ticket). I want whatever Jeremy got me, whatever Kayleigh got me, and whatever my secret santa got me, because I love little presents from my friends. I want my last holiday weekend to be memorable.

Best Picture in the World

I'm the retarded looking one.
When life gives you lemons...
...say "fuck the lemons" and bail.
Or lie in the snow for hours. Or sleep through your morning classes. Or maybe spend all of your tutoring hours talking to the one person that all of a sudden, is the only person you feel comfortable talking to. Or decided to go on the Skittles and candy canes diet.
I did get a lovely card today though :)

Okay, so...

Will and Grace probably toyed with the idea of dating occasionally, right?

Please?

And words of wisdom from Say Anything...
"I have this theory of convergence, that good things always happen with bad things. I know you have to deal with them at the same time, but I just don't know why they have to happen at the same time. I just wish I could work out some schedule."

Monday, November 17, 2008

Better, maybe?

So, it's been kind of a shitty week, but tonight Jeremy and I went out in the snow and layed on the ground and talked for like an hour and a half, and I feel a lot better.

Think it's a Heathy?

A certain nephew is making me extremely excited to come home. And a certain boy is making my week a little more tolerable, as much as I really don't want him to.

wowzers.

S.A.D. much?

12 more hours til the weekend...and most of them will be spent sleeping. I can do this, I think.

I may need to go to the health center.

Oh, Bruce, how you torment me.

Every day, I go to www.backstreets.com, hoping for some word on the new album. And every few days, there's a news update. And every time I see the news update, I get excited. But most of the time, the news update has to do with some sort of charity that Bruce has decided to help with, and every time I see this, my heart drops a little. This in turn makes me feel like a terrible person, because I shouldn't get mad at Bruce for helping with charities, but I would really like to know if this album is coming out soon.

Me and my wife.

Lake House party!

Starbucks at 50th and 8th, escaping from the rain.
This is what happens when my hair is left to it's own devices.

Waiting for the love of my life to come out.
Why, hello Mr. Doyle!

A Couple Things That Make Me Smile

1. Matthew made my day today. It's really nice to know that he actually misses me and doesn't just say it because I say it to him first. That phone call was the highlight of my week, and I'm still smiling because of it.

2. On days like today, everything.

3. I rocked my debate today, and that also made me smile. And I created a new outfit and looked good doing it.

4. BLAKE DANIEL, HERE I COME! See you tomorrow. We'll be looking nice and twinly with our black chucks and our messenger bags. It's fate.

"Americans never quit. We never surrender."-JM

Michelle Obama once said that this was the first time she's proud to be an American. I, on the other hand, have always been proud to be an American. Until now.

Yesterday our country elected the worst candidate that has ever been on the ballot. This man has absolutely no experience and no knowledge of foreign policy and how things work on the international level, particularly in regards to the Middle East. Out of Iraq in 18 months, really? Yeah, sounds like a plan. But let's look at unintended consequences. First of all, the country and its leadership will completely fall apart, paving the way for Iran to come in, take over, and establish a theocracy that is completely hostile to the United States. Then, our credibilty and status in the international community will plummet, making our relations with other countries even worse than they are. Not to mention he has absolutely no handle on illegal immigration, health care, or economics. Sure, everyone in the North is all for illegal immigration, but once you start asking people on the border who have to deal with it in their every day lives, you realize it's not so popular. And I hope we're all happy about the path to socialism. Sure, socialism in it's purest form, on paper, sounds really appealing, but it doesn't work on a large scale. Furthermore, I believe that everyone who works hard for their money deserves to keep it, and shouldn't have to provide for people who don't want to work. And I can pretty much kiss my prospects of grad school goodbye, because affirmative action is going to get out of control. Al-qaeda is probably orgasming right now, which is just fantastic. Our country is going in a direction that I absolutely abhor, and I'm scared to see what is going to happen in the next four years.

That being said, Obama is going to fuck this up so badly that it will give Republicans a chance to regroup, get our priorities in line, and ultimately, we will come out of this with a vengence. We will have a Democratic administration under Obama for four years. After that, our party will rise again. As my state senator George Winner said in his victory speech last night "we're going to have some tough times ahead of us, but Republicans can hold their heads high." I'm trying to do that right now, but I'm still in my funk.

If one more person tells me I'm taking this too seriously, they're going to get punted. I'm sorry that I take the future of my country seriously, and I'm sorry that I see the mistake you've all made. Sure, I've been pissed at my party lately too, but I had enough common sense to realize that this is not the time to stick it to them. There's way too much at stake. And I don't find this election a laughing matter, and if McCain had won, I wouldn't be rubbing it in my Democratic friends' faces, so everyone can shut the fuck up and kiss my ass. My friend Lauren said last night that this has made her more conservative and more religious. That may not be true for me, but it's made me angrier and more hostile, and I'm not an angry or hostile person. I did make it onto the news last night, watching results come in at headquarters. Most people who saw it have said "you looked awfully grim," and Kayleigh (who knows me better than anyone) said "you had the 'Heather Look of Disapproval' on your face." Well, yeah. I was watching my country implode.

Frankly, this makes me sick. A friend of mine told me that they voted for Obama because they feel he has the voice to bring our country together. Great, so did Hitler. Blindly following a leader because what they said sounds good is a very dangerous thing. Obama speaks a lot, and he speaks well, and he says words that appeal to the American people like "hope" and "change," but there's absolutely nothing of any substance that he says. To quote that Flobots song, "I can rule a nation with a microphone...I can end the world in a Holocaust." Obama's rhetoric is not going to work in diplomatic relations, and he's going to get completely pounded. Things aren't going to be all flowers, rainbows, and puppies on January 21st. We have a long road ahead of us, and I wouldn't follow Barack Obama out of my front door, let alone down this road. Hopefully, this is just a minor bend, and we will be on the right track soon enough.

...Romney 2012?

Oh man.

I feel sick to my stomach.

Monday, November 3, 2008

Lalala, I can't sleep. And I need to sleep, because we all know I won't tomorrow.

PLEASE GO VOTE FOR MCCAIN. I'll be up all night praying for a miracle.

Jesus Christ. It's not even a special occasion.

'Twas the night before Sunday
And all through the quad
The drunks were stirring out in a squad
The liquor was poured on the bar with such care
In hopes that their beer goggles soon would be there
The drunkards were naked in each other's beds
With visions of Meier danced in their heads
While Heather in her PJs and I in the nude
Made jokes in our beds that weren't even lewd
When up on the roof there arose such a clatter
"What's that I hear? I think that's a shatter!"
Away to the window, yes, I did flash
When dressed in the nude you hardly can clash
When what to our wandering eyes should appear
But some drunken assholes with bottles of beer
One stood by the bushes and took out his dick
And said in a moment "I MUST BE ST. NICK!"
More rapid than cattle coming back to the ranch
The drunkards they stumbled right into the Branch
"Now, Yager. Now, Captain. Now, Bud light and Pucker.
On Coors Light, On Freeze Pops, On Smirnoff and Nonster!
Now hide your fake before the cops come to call
And dash away, dash away, dash away all!"
As the hours go by, oh how time flies
Now it's time for last call, so say your goodbyes
So back to their dorms the drunkards they flew
With a gut full of beer, and lost dignity, too
And then, in a tinkling, I heard from the door
The sound of a drunk courting the floor
As I drew in my hand the Ouiji Board around
Down the chimney Evil God came with a bound
He said "campus is drunk. I feel your pain.
But because you disturbed me, I'll make it rain."
In the dorm room next door, I heard a bed squeek
And thought "Jesus Christ, guys. I'm trying to sleep."
-Heather and Kayleigh (mostly Kayleigh)

So anyway, campus is particularly drunk and obnoxious (aka angry) tonight. We don't have a problem with drunkenness, obviously...but people are freaking insane. And a lot of them are angrily yelling in the campus center.

Finally, a coherent entry

Blake is hiding. Gabe looks like a cat. Matt has some serious air and I love it. So does Andrew.

I'm really sad. I hate to see Spring Awakening close. I absolutely hate it. It sucks. SA was my comfort when I heard about RENT..."oh, well, SA will be there for awhile." Or not. As Kayleigh said, "now we need a new show." It completely destroys my plans of seeing it on a nightly basis when I'm in NYC. I hate to see a show that's actually a good, legitimate, meaningful piece of theater with a real, relevant message go when shows like The Lion King, The Little Mermaid, Mamma Mia!, and Mary Poppins are still going strong. But shows like SA don't appeal to families and don't appeal to non-theatre going theatre goers (if that makes sense...I think it does), and I think that's what brought it down. And its fanbase is comprised of poor young kids who would love to see it all the time but frankly don't have the money, like me. I will miss the show dearly, but by the time it closes, I'll have seen it 5 times (6 with the tour, 7 if Kayleigh and I go down during xmas break with Mariah), and that's way more than a lot of people who love the show, and I'm really thankful for that.

All that being said, HOLY SHIT WE'RE GOING TO THE LAST PERFORMANCE! Not that I want to wish the show away, but I'm so freaking excited. The energy in that theater is going to be like nothing I've ever seen in my life. I know that's how it was with Jon and Lea's last, and this is so much more than that. It's already sold out for Christ's sake. And the stage door? Oh my god. I'm actually kind of glad we're in the back because we can sneak out really easily. My sister is awesome and my hero.

I'll get through this. There will be other shows, I know there will. There will be other casts to follow, other cast recordings to memorize, other actors to stalk in Times Square (or Blake could do a new show, and I can continue to stalk him, because he'll always be my husband...esp according to the Ouiji Board last night).

And just for fun...

This is my favorite part of the set.

NO!!!

Things I've Learned Today

1. I am a racist because I'm not voting for Obama. Furthermore, every Republican gathering is reminiscent of KKK meeting. That being said, I'm super excited for my klan meeting on Thursday night.

2. The Republican establishment did not allow John McCain to nominate Joe Lieberman because he's Jewish. It doesn't have anything to do with the fact that he's A DEMOCRAT, and McCain needed to appeal to his base (i.e. Conservatives).

3. Secretary of Naps is a Cabinet position, and one I think I should aspire to.

LEAVES

More to come after we go get a rake and make a big pile.

Oh. My. God.

Spamalot is closing January 18th. I seriously can't deal with this. Spring Awakening, don't leave me.

In other news, I have to go do a lit drop in precisely 1 hour and 5 minutes, and I REALLY don't want to. But Douchebag isn't going. That being said, neither is Lauren, and I don't like that.

The Secret Life of Bees was amazing, ps.

Things

Here's me and my little buddy, who is pretty much one of the two cutest things I've ever seen in my entire life. Those eyes! I feel like I'm excluding someone, but someone wouldn't sit still enough for me to take a picture of them :-) He's still my boy though, and I had a good time with those guys.
These are the people I don't like. Okay, really, I just don't like the tall guy. But as Jeremy said when he put this picture on facebook, "note: person on the far right=my favorite Republican, ever." To which I responded "note: person taking the picture=my hero." Seriously though, Jeremy was the silver lining during a really shitty night. But George Winner was amazing during the debate, and I probably made it on the news. Good thing that was before the crying.
My email has been down. I can get into my inbox but can't send anything, so Keena, the phone number change is not acceptable. You've had the same number for years, and my brain is no shape to process any new information this week. Not okay.
TGIFriday. Seriously. This was a short week but probably one of the busiest, most stressful weeks EVER. I got a whopping 4 hours of sleep Wednesday night between being upset about the debate situation and worrying about the (count them) TWO midterms and ONE paper on Thursday.
I have to lit drop tomorrow, but that's alright because Mr. Asshole isn't coming. Oh, and wtf is with the "I don't send out minutes, I only send out meeting reminders." Um, no, secretaries send out minutes too. Ugh. Kiss my ass. Why is it that Jeremy and I are the only cool people in College Republicans and College Dems combined? We're starting our own club, we decided.
And, I got new shoes yesterday. The pink graffittied Chucks may need to be retired, which is super sad, but I guess it happens.
Spring Awakening again on November 8th, onstage, next to my boy. And now we have matching shoes, so that's exciting.

Good News Bears (Or Pears)

1. The new Killers song is CRAMAZING, which leads me to believe that this new album will also be good.

2. I nailed my yoga final.

3. I get to see my boys this weekend.

I can't believe it.

SENIOR PICTURE!And I'll keep my bio a surprise, but I have the best quote ever.

Someday, girl, I don't know when, we're gonna get to that place where we really wanna go, and we'll walk in the sun. But 'til then, baby, we were born to run."

And ugh, Hairspray is closing in January. Bad news bears.

I'm excited for Dad and Sara to come, and for my induction, and for my sleepover with Matthew and Joey next week.

YESSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not that I give a rat's ass about the superbowl, but the rumor on E Street has been that if he plays the Superbowl, there will be a new album coming out in early 2009, and the Superbowl performance will kick off a tour. Now, please let that be true.

Nanny

I can't believe it's been four years. Not a day goes by that I don't think of my grandmother. She was my best friend and I still miss her terribly every minute. I know that things got really bad at the end, but sometimes I would give anything to be back in the dialysis waiting room again. It makes me sad that her (and my mom) never got to see all that I've accomplished here, and it makes me really sad that they never got to see Matthew and Luke.

In other news, I'm Relay For Life Ceremonies Co-Chair. I'm so happy. My committee is responsible for planning, in particular, the luminaria ceremony, and choosing the music, which I'm obviously stoked about. I was thinking "Who You'd Be Today" by Kenny Chesney and "The Rising", by Bruce.

Breathe

I think I have the nervous breakdown under control. I planted my ass down in the library for four hours last night, but I didn't have a lot of work due today, so I was able to get a jump start on the massive amounts I have due tomorrow. I still have a reasonable workload tonight, but it's seeming a little more manageable than it did on Saturday. Plus, Octagon Fair is over, so that helps. One less thing to stress over. I also managed to get the perfect amount of sleep this weekend. I don't feel groggy and I don't feel tired. AND, I scrubbed my room down and did the massive amounts of laundry that were piling up.

Not to mention, I decided to be bad and go out Saturday night. It's nice to be completely back to normal with Emily. I missed her. You-know-who is still completely insane though, and has decided that since Kayleigh and I never stay at the Branch until last call, we're anti-social. Ooookay. As opposed to her, who just sits there looking bored and not talking the whole time. Whatevs. And she was "pacing herself" with her drinks (aka, judging us). Right. Because one of the three of us has managed to puke in the sink in the pantry. I'm pretty sure it wasn't me or Kayleigh. So continue to pace yourself. Kayleigh and I really need to get our drinking under control.

My favorite thing that happened at the bar this weekend was: we were playing Photo Hunt, and "Jungleland" (fave Springsteen song #2) came on, and Emily goes "this music makes me want to cry", and I'm think "great, here we go with how bad Bruce is", but I didn't say anything about it. Then later she goes "I said that song made me want to cry, not because it's bad, but because I'm starting to develop an affinity for Springsteen, especially that song, and it reminds me of this summer at the lake." Now, I don't want to say I told you so or anything, but this just proves that I am always right.

So, I love campaign season. This is the window in my room right now:

We have an Obama AND a McCain sign. But McCain is bigger and in bigger print, so I win.

This is my door. Kayleigh had to write Obama '08 on our whiteboard, because she doesn't have a cool sign, and then we wrote "Bipartisan Roomie Love", because, well, we love each.

Now, the interesting thing is that the president of College Dems lives right smack across the hall from me. Here is her door:

Now, personally I think mine looks better. The small thing is a sticker for John Tonello, who is running against George Winner for State Senate. She's missing something for Eric Massa (Randy Kuhl's opponent), but other than that, we have some serious sign wars going on. It's amusing, but at the end of the day, I don't really like her, and my door looks better (and more colorful, thus, more eye-catching).

Get your heads out of your asses

I'm horrified by how many of my friends have joined a group on facebook called "I have more foreign policy experience since Sarah Palin", especially since NONE of them are political science or international studies majors. These kids wouldn't know a thing about foreign policy if it bit them in their asses.

I have more foreign policy experience than Barack Obama. I've taken three foreign relations classes. My foreign policy experiences could kick my friends' foreign policy experiences' asses. So there. And in one of those classes, I ran Germany. For three weeks. I should be president.

As Mike Huckabee said, "you get more executive experience being governor for 2 years than being a senator for 10." And, Sarah Palin can see Russia from her backyard. We need to be keeping our eye on those cats. And, Sarah Palin does not need foreign policy experience. John McCain won't fuck around. Barack Obama will get walked all over.

The other day in my FOREIGN POLICY CLASS, we were talking about how we need to improve our relationship with Venezuela, and this girl was like "I don't care. Latin America is not high on my list of priorities" (which I agree with), and this guy was like "Well, they have oil!" Don't we have that? I thought we had oil? Maybe if we ACTUALLY USED IT, we wouldn't have to worry.

Mountain Day Roulette

This is the summary of my September:
I end the day with coffee stains my teeth, disastrous hair, massive headaches, pen-stained hands, and highlighter all over...EVERYTHING. Hands, face, bed...I should just paint myself yellow.

So we were all expecting Mountain Day on Wednesday. I've learned my lesson in the past, and I did all my work Tuesday night. Thank God!!! I was shocked to wake up and see that we had class. So we're all playing the "when is it going to be?" game, and everyone knows it won't be on a Friday or Monday, and today was the memorial service for a prof that died over the summer. So anyway, we're all like "is he seriously going to make us sing until Tuesday?". So last night I went to singing angrily, despite the fact that I had over 60 pages of reading for my 9:55 class (second class of the day). So after, I angrily storm over to the library and plant my ass down, but by 11:30 I had the WORST headache and felt like I was going to cry, so I said fuck it and packed up. I went home, set my alarm for 5am, and went to sleep. But thank god, there was a "o hai, it's Mountain Day" slip under my door when the alarm went off...so, this is how I spent my Mountain Day...
I've just been so tired and run down lately. I think the reality is that my course schedule is too much for me, but I like all of my classes, and it's too late to drop now. Yoga ends in October, so that's an extra hour each morning that I can look forward to. Kayleigh makes fun of me because between 8am and 5pm, if I'm not in class, I'm asleep. Then I wake up, deal with dinner and club meetings, and do my homework, and go to bed. It's not easy being such a leader like me ;-)

Drama, drama, drama...

So it's Mountain Day singing time again. Yay. Nothing like freezing your ass off in the President's driveway for two hours and not having enough time to do your homework just so you can get a day off and be even more behind, but it's all in the name of school spirit and unity, right?

Wrong. So last night was class night, and our class is pathetic and tiny, so there were probably 40 of us there, dressed in our theme (yeah Risky Business), but we were spirited as hell. Every single one of us gave it our all. Furthermore, we've never won class night. And furthermore, we were there first, smack in front of the president's door. So then the 2011s come in with their Grease theme (ps, my dorm did that last year, nice job). And there's a ton of them. And they're loud, and they're obnoxious, and frankly, they're rude and disrespectful. Some of them were smoking on the President's lawn. And they chanted rude things, they cheered over our cheer. Basically, it was ridiculous. And the 2012s and 2010s barely had a showing.

So, the winner is based on how well your group follows the theme, how well your group follows the rules, your spirit, and your turnout. Obviously, we didn't have the turnout, but everything else was there, and we were completely respectful of everyone else. And did I mention we've never won Mountain Day (first freshmen class to not win class night in YEARS), because we were always overshadow by the 2008s. Except last year, when the 2011s won.

So we won. Go us. No one was expecting it, but we deserved. So then all the freaking sophomores start pitching a hissy fit and saying it's rigged. Okay, kiss my ass. They won last year, and they didn't follow the rules. And it's not rigged for seniors, because the seniors NEVER win. And in the grand scheme of things, does it matter? You get $100 for your class. That's it. If I had $100, I would freaking give it to the 2011s. That's how much it doesn't matter. So we go to the bar as a class last night, and I go home, do my work, and go to bed, expecting it to blow over.

And then I wake up this morning to a facebook group called "The 2011s are the real winners of Mountain Day." Seriously? Are you fucking kidding me? Can we grow up?

We're supposed to be uniting as a school to get a day off from classes. Nothing like missing the point. We won because we gave it our all and we were respectful, which goes a long with Dr. Meier and SA Exec.

My friend Jeremy and I decided that not only are we the College Dems/Republicans bridge, we now have to bridge the gap between the 2009s and 2011s. At least one of them is reasonable.
But I'm over it.
