What I call motivation.

Um, NYU completely funds their PhD candidates AND gives them a stipend AND gives them three years of a teaching assistantship. I NEED to get in. I'm working my ass off at Brooklyn, taking a GRE prep class, and studying for it starting now.

Oh Please...

A New York State politician has declared August 23 Michael Jackson day.

...

...really? Okay. The man was influential to pop music, no doubt about it. However, there are other people who have been just as, if not more so, influential to music. If Michael Jackson gets his own holiday, I propose one for Elvis, Johnny Cash, Woody Guthrie, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Pete Seeger, Jimmy Hendrix, every single Beatle, Ella Fitzgerald, Sam Cooke, BB King, Kurt Cobain, Pavement, every Ramone, the members of ABBA, Britney Spears, and well, the list continues. Think of anyone who has made a contribution to music and influenced entire genres, and then give them their own holiday. Because if MJ deserves one, so do they. Furthermore, most (MOST) of these people have far less controversy in their personal lives. And finally, we have some major issues facing America right now. Maybe we should be concentrating on them, not someone who was, let's face it, an alleged child molester, and frankly, a has-been, albeit one who was influential during his hay day.

I'm previewing the Country Music Tribute to Bruce Springsteen right now...eesh.

Oh, and family, meet your future son/brother-in-law.
This is Ed Westwick. He's on Gossip Girl, and we're going to get married. Seriously though. He lives in New York. And I hear there's not many people there and I hear that actors on one of the most popular TV shows these days usually like dorky, overweight graduate students living in studio apartments in Brooklyn, so this plan is flawless. But a girl can dream.

Kevin Costner, I've gained a ton of respect for you.

"When I look back at my life and the time I lived, and people ask me about who made a difference, I would tell them that Bruce did. And he did it without ever trying to. Humble man."
-Costner on Springsteen.

But, read the next entry for the REAL highlight of the day :) I did that, and then I saw this, and I had to put it up.

I'm still wondering where time goes.

HAPPY FIRST BIRTHDAY, LUKE!

I can't believe it's been a year since Matthew and I painted that "welcome home" sign for you. I'm so incredibly happy that you came into our lives, and I love you so much.

Miserable.

On my left leg, I have about 8 bug bites clustered in one place, then at least five more spread out on my calf. And then I have a really bad one on my right leg too. None of them will stop itching, and the cluster makes it worse. And it's so bad that I can't not scratch them, so I've pretty much ripped my legs to shreds. And I can't stop. This situation has a few kickers. The first is that for once in my life, I was actually wearing bugspray. The bigger kicker is that it is 3am, and this is literally so bad that I've been up for hours because of it. I'm so tempted to get into my car and drive to Walgreen's, which is open 24 hours, for Calamine lotion, but I'm pretty sure that would get me in trouble, haha. But I'm super miserable. Because not only am I itchy, I'm in pain from the claw marks on my legs, and I'm tired, and I'm hungry, which is what always happens around this time when I stay up late.

On a more positive note, I found an apartment on Craigslist that I'm really interested in. It's a studio in the Prospect Park/Midwood area, and is actually only 2 blocks away from school. $775/month, including gas, hot water, and heat, and the listing said that the main room area is big enough to section into two rooms. The ad also said students and guarantors were welcome, which is always good news, haha. So I responded via email, which is what the listing said to do, so that's a step in the right direction. This place also has 5 closets, which would be amazing. Fingers crossed.

Love them.

I took this picture of me and Matthew on my cell phone when I was home on christmas break during my freshman year, meaning Matthew was 8 months old. I've always really liked it, but I thought I lost it when my computer broke and my old cell phone went swimming, which made me sad. So, I did what I could to recreate it with Lukey.

This is me and Lukey during my February break, when he was seven months old. I think it's a great picture of him, and I was satisfied.

But then tonight, I heard that facebook is about to essentially become public, so in a scramble to ensure that my profile is visible to as few people as possible, I went to change the privacy setting on everything, including my pictures. This required me to change the settings on each individual album I've created in the last four years, and in doing so, I found my picture of Matthew! Anyway, I'm happy about that, so I wanted to post both of them so everyone who reads this (Dad and Keena pretty much) know that I have the cutest nephews ever. As if you didn't already.
